Zotero, Importing from Mendeley

After reaching the 2 Gb free space limit of Mendeley, I did some research and decide to use Zotero as my pdf management tool. Different from Mendeley, Zotero supports WebDAV-based sync.

However, importing pdfs from Mendelay from Zotero is not easy, since the latest Mendelay release encrypts its database. Below is some notes on how to hack the importing.

  1. sync Mendelay to the cloud and download all pdfs.
  2. delete the Mendelay library and app, move downloaded pdfs to a different folder;
  3. download an old version Mendelay, sync from the cloud, and add pdfs from the previous folder;
  4. export to zotero
